ENERGY:

Smart Grid initiatives are transforming the delivery and consumption of electrical power worldwide. The Smart Grid has many components: smart meters, network infrastructure, demand response and energy management/control programs. Developing, integrating and deploying these components so they work together seamlessly and reliably from day one requires expertise in a broad range of disciplines.

When selecting a partner choose one that is technology and manufacturer neutral, a partner that can provide both ala carte services and turnkey program implementation from initial Discovery through Delivery and Support, a partner that is a leader in deploying demand response, energy conservation and smart metering solutions throughout North America – chose NexGen Energy Services (NES).

SMART Meter Deployments

The Smart Meter and its supporting AMI network infrastructure represent the backbone of the Smart Grid. AMI initiatives are moving forward at an ever-increasing pace. Whether you are considering a small-scale pilot or a system-wide AMI deployment, the professionals at NES can help. We’ve partnered with utilities nationwide to provide everything from smart meter deployment services and overall program management of electric, gas and water projects.

Projects are staffed locally with the objective of developing high-caliber field installation teams that reflect the diverse make-up of the communities in which the work is being performed. Recruits are put through an intensive and rigorous multi-week training program involving technical, safety and life skills classroom training, field training and job shadowing. Quality projects don’t just happen by themselves – they’re the result of attention to detail on literally hundreds of issues ranging from the initial project plan through staffing, supervision, training, tools, workflow, logistics and reporting. NES focus is on the details, so you don’t have to.

Partnerships are all about win-win relationships built on trust, integrity and delivering client value. At NES, we are committed to our customers in every facet of a project.

DEMAND RESPONSE

NES provides residential and small business deployment services for the smart thermostats and load control switches which typically comprise the bulk of utility sponsored Demand Response Initiatives. These devices allow the utility to cycle equipment like air conditioners for short periods of time. By having control over peak energy use, utilities are able to stabilize costs, reduce the need for additional power plants, and avoid disruptions like brownouts and blackouts. In return for their participation, customers usually receive a break on their monthly bill or a free programmable thermostat, which can help drive their energy costs down.

As one of North America’s premier providers of technology deployment services to the energy industry, NES knows how to implement effective, turnkey demand response solutions that are successful in building high customer enrollment and satisfaction, and ultimately deliver the needed Kilowatt savings. Utilizing industry best practices shaped by our years of experience in demand response, we provide both à la carte services and turnkey program implementation from initial planning through deployment, service and support. With technology solutions delivering more and more effective demand response programs, the question facing every utility is not whether or not they should have a demand response program but who should be their demand response program partner. When looking for a partner, choose one that is technology and manufacturer neutral, one who is a leader in deploying demand response, energy conservation and smart metering programs throughout North America – choose NES.

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS:

NES provides its utility customers with a full compliment of services designed to make certain their enterprise GIS is Smart Grid ready including field records auditing and benchmarking to identify missing or inaccurate data, CAD/Paper to GIS conversion services, operational systems integration services and on-going support services.

A recent study commissioned by ESRI, found that only 15% of utility respondents indicated high confidence in the accuracy of their GIS data and only one third of utilities indicate they update GIS information within 10 days of work completion. This lag time to update data places GIS Smart Grid readiness at risk. NES is certified on most leading GIS systems and ready to make your GIS Smart Grid ready.

NETWORK:

The foundation of the Smart Grid is the infrastructure network that carries the data. More and more information is being moved across these networks and it is imperative that these networks function real-time. NES has been installing networks in the Energy and Wireless markets for years. We provide network installation services across our national footprint for many various types of equipment. Our network experience makes us a great resource for OEM, Utility and Communications customers. We partner with many companies to provide unique solutions to the end client. Whether you are deploying an AMI system, Load Management – DR solution, mesh network or a cellular network NES delivers.

As part of NES’s overall network offering we also work with OEM, Utilities and Communications customers to maintain existing network infrastructure. Our Network Team works directly to support customers long after the main deployment to ensure the network remains healthy. NES can either augment OEM/Utility/Communications staff or be your one stop to maintain your network.

SMALL CELL IMPLEMENTATION:

In today’s fast paced wireless communications environment carriers are building out their networks to provide faster and better coverage through Small Cell deployments. NES is at the forefront of implementation these technologies.

Small Cell Network technology is becoming more prevalent with Wireless Communications companies. Mobile data traffic expected to double annually, small cell base stations are set to play an important role in expanding the capacity of wireless networks. Mobile operators are realizing that to meet the demands for data, video and application access caused by smart phones and other devices.

These devices are being mounted directly on utility poles verses towers to help the wireless industry provide better coverage for areas with coverage gaps, prohibitive zoning and high capacity demand areas. Wireless operators use small cells to extend their service coverage and/or increase network capacity. With small cells, wireless operators can offload a substantial amount of traffic during peak times providing better overall service to their customers.
NES has formed partnerships with some of the largest wireless companies to provide installation service of this cutting edge technology. NES has a strong wireless organization that can support large deployments, technology pilots and maintenance of these networks.
